Alien Puzzle Wii 0.6

by GEMISIS
Alien Puzzle Wii is a homemade puzzle game for the Wii. The goal of the game is to get to the end of each level while collecting as many points as you can from the gems scattered throughout each level. The key trick to this game is the fact that once you start moving, you can’t stop (except for in certain cases which are talked about in the documentation). This requires precision as each level is scattered with TNT, which will explode on contact. Some of them move, some of them just sit there. Each level is unique, as is the rest of the game. Good thing you have three lives. And if you beat the level, you get to carry your score on with you to the next level. Thus, you can get amazingly high scores! You can play alone, or with a friend. Just be careful, if you collide with your friend, you both will bounce. And don’t worry, if you don’t want to play the actual game, you can always relax to some nice music via the built in mp3 player, which can be accessed by pressing the “home” button on the Wii controller. While you’re doing that, you could also make levels in your own paint editor, without even having to learn how to draw! (Described in the documentation) And with the online shop, you can download new levels for absolutely free.

SwingBall 1.0

by ThatOtherPerson

A time trail, swinging game.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
Sorry for the videos horrific frame rate. Its actually a video of the game running on a PC and I haven’t been able to find a decent screen recording program aside from fraps (which only works with things using OpenGL and DirectX).

I fixed a few little things. Added additional menus and made some improvements to the one menu screen that did already exist. Added a screen pointing out the games use of the nunchuk controller (a commenter on GBAtemp felt that it wasn’t clear enough). Just like the nintendomax splash screen that comes before it you can skip past the nunchuk screen by pressing the A button. There are no real significant changes to the gameplay. I tweaked a few of the levels a little bit. added sound effects. lowered the volume of the music to make the sound effects more audible. I also smoothed out the blue trail that follows you to make it less pixelated.

If you make your own levels (all you need to do is make a BMP file and drop it into the levels folder) then I would love to see them. It would be cool to have a pack of community made levels to include the next time I update the game.

SwingBall 0.9

by ThatOtherPerson
A time trail, swinging game.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
I got a lot done.

There is actually a goal now. There is an onscreen timer that counts down from 30 and if it reaches zero you lose. There are things you can pick up to gain extra time. Your score is equal to how many seconds yo have left when you reach the end of a level. Your high score for each level (there are six at the moment) is automatically saved and gets displayed at the level selection screen.

I fixed problems relating to jumping well standing next to something (before standing next to a block would occasionally cause you to either not jump or jump too high). I added the ability to jump well you have a rope out just like you can when you don’t. Now you can control how high you jump by how long you hold down the A button. I generally just tweaked and perfected a bunch of things relating to your movement and collision detection.

Instead of there being nothingness outside of the game map now any tiles outside of the level are treated as generic solid blocks.

The sprites are still simple and similar to the previous ones but I think they look slightly better now. I also added a blue trailing effect behind your character that blurs and fades nicely.

SwingBall 0.1

by ThatOtherPerson
Early beta of a time trail, swinging game.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
Keep in mind this is all really incomplete and the graphics and pretty much everything else is just placeholder stuff that will get replaced later. Also I would totally appreciate suggestions for an alternative title.

I’m planning for it to be essentially be a time trial thing (get from point A to point B before time runs out) and your going to be able to swing in it just because swinging is an inherently fun and awesome mode of transportation.

So far its probably like 75% done. The collision detection and movement all pretty much work the way it should. but its that last 25% that makes any game worth while so if your going to try it out set your expectations low.

If you want to mess around with making your own level for it its really easy to do so. Rather then sinking a ton of time into a level editor I setup the game to load its tile placements from generic BMP image files found in the Media\Game\Levels folder. Both the width and height of the image have to be bellow 1000 but aside from that you can make your level any size you want. Just draw a black pixel anywhere that you want to place a regular solid tile, a green pixel for a tile that cant be swung from or a red pixel for a tile that will kill you on contact.

WiiSX Beta 2 Preview

EmulateMii's Notes
==================
We’re nearing the WiiSX beta 2 release, so we decided that it’s time to show a preview video of the current state of the emulator and tell you about our progress. Last summer, we released a beta of WiiSX so that we could put it on the back burner for a while and focus on Wii64. We weren’t too happy with WiiSX beta 1 because it lacked a proper gui and suffered from stuttering audio and other bugs. So, we’ve focused the past few weeks on adding a gui to WiiSX and improving the sound, pad plugin, and other various parts of the emulator. While there will still be plenty of work left for the future, we feel that this release will greatly improve the emulator’s playability and polish. Look forward to the release, but for now please enjoy the preview.

Super Pixel Jumper 1.0

by ThatOtherPerson
Super Pixel Jumper is a fast paced score based platformer with constant forward motion. As long as you avoid contact with the brighter colored blocks your score will continue to increase as will the speed of the game. Your high score is automatically saved.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
I still haven’t been able to get it to work with mp3 (I have no idea what I’m doing wrong) but I did get SDL_Mixer working on Wii. For anyone having the same problem with smpeg I just removed -DMP3_MUSIC from SDL_mixer’s make file, remade it, reinstalled, which allowed me to then remove -lsmpeg from my games makefile without SDL_Mixer complaining about its absence when I went to compile the game. So I decided to port Super Pixel Jumper from GP2X to Wii which I was putting off doing because I wouldn’t be able to get all of the audio playing at the same time using just libogc’s MP3Player.

So anyways its a fast paced score based platformer with constant forward motion. As long as you avoid contact with the brighter colored blocks your score will continue to increase as will the speed of the game. Your high score is automatically saved. Use the Wiimote D-pad to move and the 2 button to jump (hold it to jump further).

It really is pretty much a direct port just running at 640×480 rather then 320×240 and slowed down (how much things move per frame) a bit to compensate for the higher frame rate.

As with the GP2X version the background music (fight for your life loop) was made by Xythe and the sound effects (alienyell, lasergun and ufo landing) were made by mlestn1. All of which was taken from freesound.org.

That Other Pong v1

Another Pong game for Wii.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
Other people have already made (what presumably must be in at least some cases better) home brew pong games for Wii. This is just another one to add to the list. Its single player only and you use the wiimote D-pad to move your paddle up and down.

It uses the same home menu as 1bit Invaders but I realized that the clock wasn’t updating (it was just sitting at whatever time it was when the game started up) so I corrected that. I also added the ability to shut off your Wii using the power button (the button on the console not the one in the menu which was already working) or holding down the wiimote power button and also the ability to restart your Wii with the restart button all of which I had forgotten to do with the stuff I put out recently.

Linkinworm - "Wormoid" "Warrior Reign" (MP3)

by Linkinworm, Violator

Linkinworm the well known musical composer of the cIOSX Installer songs has contacted and informed We Brew Wii that he and his friend Violator have created two new great songs.

The first is called "Wormoid", which is a electronica style song.

The second song is called "Warrior Reign" which is a rock genre song. It's a pre-release version. The final version will be released in the near future.

If you love his previous songs, you are definitely going to love these ones.

UPDATE

The first upload of "Warrior Reign" was corrupted by Mediafire because the original first ZIP uploaded was not broken. The file has been re-uploaded and extracts fine now. Thanks for the heads up XFlak.

Sorry for the typo in the file name. Should be "linkinworm"

1bit Invaders 2

by ThatOtherPerson

A point and shoot game.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
1bit Invaders is a 2d free roaming space shooter with a fully destructible environment and retro monochrome graphics. To stay alive and gain points just shoot the circles before they reach your ship. Use the wiimote to aim, B button to shoot and the nunchuck analog stick to move.

This is actually the third time I’ve completely remade this game. Once back when I first messed around with wii homebrew using libwiisprite to render everything. I don’t think I ever posted that first one anywhere though I definitely recall taking photos of it running on my TV and posting them someplace. It was pretty cool and constantly scrolled to the right but you had different ways of effecting the speed that that happened and you didn’t naturally keep up with the speed of the camera so you would drift to the left side of the screen and it just generally had a really nice sense of motion. The second time (which is the version that is at the moment on the Homebrew Browser) I made this game I did it with SDL like I did this time but it turned out (in my opinion) really lame and was just a single screen thing. I’m happy with this third remake though. If/when I decide to do more of it I definitely think I’m going to build on this rather then starting fresh for a fourth time. Regardless I think I might post more about it at some future point in time. There is some mildly interesting shit about how it works.

Random cool thing: Along with making the wiimote shake when your hurt the screen also sorta shakes and freaks out and the red green blue layers that white is comprised of get shifted in different directions. I was going to mess up the screen in some other ways also but didn’t want to spend the time on it. I’m really happy with how that turned out but I’m kinda unsure how it will be received so let me know what you think of the effect.

CHANGELOG r160
==============
Well after looking for a while into the mupdf library (thanks to the producers!)
and modifying it in some parts here is something new:

New Feature: PDF Viewer :D

This makes WiiXplorer the first PDF Viewer for the Wii (i think :P, didn't see
any others)

NOTE 1:
The navigations of the new PDF Viewer is the same as the Image Viewer. In the
Settings you can configure a "PDF Processing Zoom" which is used for internal
PDF Processing. With this you can improve quality because the PDF is processed
in a higher resolution (very usefull sometimes). It is different than the Zoom
in the PDF Viewer. Be aware that the Wii does not have endless memory and can't
handle too high resolutions or some PDFs at all. The GPU limit is at about
1024x1024.

NOTE 2: The PDF Viewer uses some fonts for some PDFs. You can find a bunch in
the download section. They go into the "UpdatePath/fonts/" which is default to
"sd:/apps/WiiExplorer/fonts/"

NOTE 3: For the Japanese/Chinese and some more Users probably that use special
signs, a CJK support is sometimes needed which processes CMaps. I compiled the
CMaps and included them to the source BUT I did not include them into the app
because it adds about 3 MB to the app. If you want to activate the feature here
is a little tutorial how to:

1. Open the Makefile and search for "-DNOCJK"
2. Remove this from the Makefile
3. Recompile (clean/rebuild) the complete source

The app should be around 6-7MB big. Be aware that memory is a big issue in PDF
processing and you might not even be able to open some files.

Roxoptr2 0.2

by Thomas Jollans

ROXOPTR2 is a simple SDL-based helicopter game similar to its amazingly simple Python/Tkinter-based predecessor, rockopter. You steer the helicopter around obstacles using your arrow keys or (on the Wii) the D-pad on your primary WiiMote. Leaving the playing field or running into obstacles is fatal. Be sure to note that an obstacle might just look like an obstacle but actually allow you to pass.

CHANGELOG r159
==============
Experemental Commit:
There were a lot of changes in this rev. I can't remember all but mainly:

*Fix for THP crash on unsupported/unloadable files
*Few fixes in the TextEditor
*Main AudioCore change. A lot of changes in the audio playback.
*Playback of audio now directly from the device possible. This makes the
playback of any filesize possible for the supported formats. There is a settings
to load the files to memory first and play them from there (old way).
*Tooltip Class added (no tooltips added to buttons yet, a bit lazy :P)
*Fix for googlecode update

NOTE: The audio changes were a bit instable for me. That is why this is an
experemental commit.
Please report if the playback is ok or not for you and also what else is better
and what is worse. In the Settings there are also a few soundbuffer options
which you could play with to adjust and report the best configs for you. If
these new modifications to the core of sound playback won't work out, they might
get reverted.

NOTE2: You will need to update to this revision manually. Due to a few changes
from google on the googlecode site the autoupdater doesn't work anymore. This is fixed in the new revision for future releases.

Avoidance

by ThatOtherPerson
Just use the wiimote D-pad to move around the screen and avoid coming in contact with the red blocks for as long as you can to set a new high score.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
Here is a Wii remake/port of that simple browser game I made last month. Just use the wiimote D-pad to move around the screen and avoid coming in contact with the red blocks. They longer you avoid them then the higher your score. Anytime you fail your score is checked against your personal high score and if you’ve set a new record then its automatically saved.

It uses the same home menu I made for Dance Clone but now when you bring up the home menu it blurs the background. That was something I intended to do for Dance Clone as I don’t feel its as immediately clear as it should be what text and things are part of the paused game and whats part of the menu (having the same font and buttons for both didn’t exactly help with that) but it was going to slow at the time so I cut out the blur before posting Dance Clone. There is still a bit of a delay now when you bring up the home menu but its not too bad and its still a work in progress that I think I can improve.

Dance Clone 0.3

by ThatOtherPerson

Dance Clone is a Dance Dance Revolution clone.

Use the D-Pad on either a wiimote, a Game Cube controller or ideally a Game Cube dance mat.

ThatOtherPerson's Notes
=======================
I got around to doing some more on Dance Clone.

You can import sm (StepMania) format step files now. Its incomplete and wont fully (or perhaps even at all) work with some files but should work with the majority of sm files. I was using “Burning Me Up” (its part of one of the contest winning song packs at www.stepmania.com though I don’t remember which one) for testing and it works perfectly with it.

There are now five difficulty modes just like with most DDR style games.

There are a bunch of changes and additions in terms of menus. There is a title screen now along with a credits screen and now you can select to create new replacement step files for songs that already have one (rather then needing to exit the game and manually delete the file).

There is a home menu (the menu that comes up when you hit the home button) now and along with being able to exit the game and do stuff like that from the home menu you can also take screen shots with it (png or bmp format).

There are some other little changes also.

CHANGELOG v0.3
==============
-Added the ability to import SM (StepMania) format step files.
-The scrolling Boo/Good/Perfect ratings are now properly cleared out when a song ends or is exited rather then remaining and waiting for you to start a new song.
-Added text at the bottom of the screen displaying your performance.
-Added support for up to five different step placement tracks per song to allow for multiple difficulties.
-Step files used by the game now use a dc file name extension rather then dat. They must also now include information on what difficulty mode steps are to be associated with.
-An added title screen along with several other added or updated in game menus. The song selection menu for example now allows you to scroll threw available songs when there are too many to display on screen at once.
-Added a home menu screen from which you can return to the game, return to the homebrew loader, restart your Wii, turn off your Wii, save a screenshot in BMP format or do the same as a PNG format image. The home menu also displayed the time and date.

Trucha Bug Restorer 1.12

by WiiPower
The purpose of Trucha Bug Restorer is to get IOS with the trucha bug on all Wiis with system menu up to 4.2. Usually the error codes -1017 and -2011 indicate that the trucha bug is required and missing.

Trucha Bug Restorer restores the Trucha bug to IOS36 and IOS37 on a Wii with no the bug present. It works by downgrading IOS15, then using the downgraded IOS15 to patch and install IOS36 with Trucha Bug, ES_Identify (ES_DiVerify), NAND Permissions Patch and version check patch (or any combination of the four), then uses IOS36 to upgrade IOS15 again. This downgraded IOS15 works fine for TBR, but may not work for other things. It is perfectly safe and functional on all Wiis.

These patched versions of IOS36 and IOS37 can be installed into other slots, to prevent them being overwritten by updates, or to allow them to co-exist with original unpatched versions of those IOS.

CHANGELOG v1.12
===============
-Added version check patching (this prevents error -1035 on downgrading titles)
-Forces the patched ES module to be NOT shared (will reduce used nand space eventually if the installed IOS is overwritten)
-Disabled all patches except the hash check for IOS37, the patches either don't work or are useless on a patched IOS37
